Renewable fuels

solar energy

Renewable fuels are energy resources that can be replenished. Examples include biofuels and hydrogen fuel. They are distinct from other non-renewable energy sources, such as natural gas, petroleum, LPG, or other fossil fuels. These sources can also include nuclear energy. There are numerous efforts underway to develop the technologies and fuels that renewable energy requires.

Cellulosic biomass biofuels

Cellulosic fuels are renewable and clean energy resources derived from biomass. This energy source is extremely promising in helping the US become energy independent. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is a Colorado-based laboratory that has been producing cellulosic ethanol for over 25 years. The National Bioenergy Center is managed by the company. It has developed cellulosicethanol to replace gasoline.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel comes from renewable resources and has a cleaner burn than petroleum diesel. It has lower carbon emissions than petroleum, and it can be biodegradable as fast as sugar. It has many advantages for the environment, and the economy. Biodiesel can also be made from locally grown crops. Some projects even transform kitchen waste into biodiesel.

Bioethanol

Bioethanol, a renewable fuel, can be produced by fermenting sugars and oxygen. The process is carried out by yeasts, which are facultative anaerobes that live in sugar-rich environments. You can either isolate yeasts from their natural environment or grow them in culture. Yeasts are used for bioethanol production. Because they convert sugars to alcohol more efficiently, yeasts found in nature are the best option for bioethanol production.

Biomethane

While the biomethane renewable fuel industry is relatively small, there is significant potential for growth. It can also be used in existing infrastructure. The growth of the biomethane industry depends on policies aimed at decarbonising the gas supply.

Bio-diesel

Bio-diesel is an alternative fuel that is produced from renewable resources. It is used in construction and manufacturing industries, as well as being one of the most preferred fuels by the U.S. government. As diesel-powered vehicle demand decreases, this renewable fuel is expected see significant growth. Diesel-powered vehicles currently account for 1% in passenger vehicle sales in America.

Bio-ethanol

Ethanol is a biofuel that is produced from fermentation of carbon-based fuels. These feedstocks have the ability to harvest sunlight and return nutrients to the earth. These feedstocks include sugarcane, bagasse, sugar beets, and cellulose wastes.
